STAR-RED Named Super Sampler at Select Sires

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Aug. 6, 2007 — 7HO9300 Mer-Gold Persia STAR-RED-ET, bred by Nathan and Adam Goldenburg and Tom Mercuro, McGregor, Texas, has been chosen to enter Select Sires’ Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™) sire-sampling system. Based on his outstanding pedigree, STAR-RED is one of 330 Holstein bulls to enter the program in 2007. In addition to being sampled through PGA cooperator herds, this young sire has been identified as a Super Sampler™. With this designation, STAR-RED semen is available to all Holstein breeders.

STAR-RED’s name says it all. Sired by 7HO8430 Zee-Cal PERSIA-RED-ET and out of one of the breed’s most acclaimed Red cows, STAR-RED is expected to combine show style with outstanding production. His dam, Derrwyn Miss Special-Red-ET, is Excellent (94-EX-MS) and was the first-place 5-year-old cow and reserve champion at the 2006 International Red and White Show. She is working on a terrific record with 34,459 pounds of milk at 278 days. Miss Special’s dam is the highly regarded Derrwyn Factor Miata-Red (EX-94-2E-EX-MS), who has over 150,000 pounds of milk lifetime and was nominated for Red Cow of the Year by Holstein International.
