Select-Sired Offspring Triumph at World Dairy Expo

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, Oct. 18, 2007 — Select’s bulls and bull mothers experienced much success at the 2007 World Dairy Expo International Holstein Show and Grand National Junior Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo, Madison, Wis. Sires such as 7HO6782 Ocean-View ZENITH-TW-ET, 7HO7690 Ocean-View Derry ZANDER, 7HO7872 KHW Kite ADVENT-RED-ET, 7HO6131 Regancrest Emory DERRY-ET and 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET*CV were well represented in very strong classes.

Windy-Knoll-View Pledge-ET (EX-92-EX-MS) continued her hot streak winning the 5-year-old cow class. Pledge recently won grand champion honors at the All-American Holstein Show in Harrisburg, Pa., and is the full sister to 7HO8175 Windy-Knoll-View PRONTO-ET. PRONTO specializes in high type (+3.42) and Total Performance Index™ (TPI™) (+1850) and is quickly becoming one of Select’s most popular sires. Pledge is also the dam of Showcase Selections™ sire 7HO9140 Windy-Knoll View POINT-ET and Super Sampler™ 7HO9289 Windy-Knoll-View 4 ACES-ET. Pledge is owned by James and Nina Burdette, Mercersburg, Pa.

ZANDER daughter Char-Mae Zan Mary-ET, owned by Morgan Behnke, New Glarus, Wis., was named junior champion female of the junior show after winning the winter yearling heifer class. Reserve junior champion went to Craves Zenith Gracious 4449, sired by ZENITH and owned by Patrick Crave, Waterloo, Wis. She topped the spring yearling heifer class in the junior show and was third in the same class in the open show. Another ZENITH daughter, Willows Edge Zenith Lapel, owned by Claire Van Dyk, New Richmond, Wis., placed second in the fall heifer class.

Sired by ADVENT-RED, Stone-Front Advent Laverne (VG-88), owned by Shane Nodolf, Belmont, Wis., was the first place junior 3-year-old cow in the junior show. She took third in her class in the open show. DURHAM daughter Hillmont Durham Lyndi (EX-93) was named grand and senior champion female of the junior show after topping the six-year-old and older cow class. She is owned by Luther Hillegass, Berlin, Pa.

In the open milking cow classes, DURHAM daughters placed at the top to earn DURHAM Premier Sire honors for an unprecedented fifth year in a row. Budjon-JK Durham Episode (VG-89), owned by Arethusa Farm, Litchfield, Conn., placed second in the senior 2-year-old class. Standing second in the six-year-old and older cow class was Coldsprings Dur Chan 109-ET, owned by Kingstead Farms and Tom Mercuro, Damascus, Md. Budjon Durham Dixee-ET, owned by Budjon Farms, Lomira, Wis., won the Holstein Kingsmill Farm II International Futurity class. Placing second in the Futurity class was DERRY daughter Budjon-JK Derry Epiphany, owned by Robert Gunderson, Shannon, Ill.
