Select Sires’ Herd Health Profit Dollars® (HHP$®) index is designed to create healthy, efficient and profitable cows. The longevity-focused index prioritizes mastitis resistance and fertility, while balancing fat and protein, to target profit points within the herd. This graduating class includes six sires above +700 HHP$. Leading the pack are 14HO16236 UNDERTONE (+907), 14HO16393 ORGANIC (+891) and 7HO16275 T REX (+885). ORGANIC, T REX, 14HO16082 FRAMPTON and several others qualify for the Mastitis ResistantPRO® designation. This one-of-a-kind designation is assigned based on strict parameters for Zoetis Mastitis Resistance, CDCB Mastitis Resistance and Somatic Cell Score. Look for the green designation icon to select sires that prevent costly mastitis cases and improve milk quality.
Daughter fertility remains in focus as dairies strive to boost the fertility of future generations. ORGANIC leads the class for Fertility Index at +3.8, with 14HO16391 EASTON (+1.4) and 507HO15927 BOLT ACTION (+0.9) next in line. As herds lower their culling rate and keep profitable cows in the herd for more lactations, Cow Conception Rate becomes increasingly important. ORGANIC offers a booming +5.0 CCR to address fertility challenges in older cows.
Select Sires’ Showcase™ program welcomed three newly proven sires, 7HO16116 HARDY, 7HO16295 HAS IT ALL and 7HO16387 HANX-P. From one of the most coveted maternal lines in the Holstein breed, HARDY offers exceptional Type (+2.65) and udder traits (+2.04 UDC and greater than +2.60 for FUA, RUH and RUW). HAS IT ALL was a highly anticipated graduate and has quickly become a customer satisfaction sire across the board. 250HO16290 BLAKELY combines production performance with exceptional type and doesn’t sacrifice health or fertility. He transmits important health traits, including +2.4 CDCB MAST and 105 Z MAST to reduce mastitis costs. Alleviate strain on heifer inventories by improving completion rates with BLAKELY’s calf health profile. He’s 109 C LIV and +51 CW$™. His sire fertility is extreme (+2.3 SCR) and his daughter fertility is highlighted by +1.6 HCR and +0.5 FI.
EASTON moderates size while maintaining openness of rib, and strengthens udder attachments to create durable, functional cows. Heifer completion rates silently influence culling rates in the lactating herd, but EASTON can relieve this pressure. He transmits 107 Calf Scours and 104 Calf Respiratory Disease, the two leading causes of death in young calves.
