Select Sires graduates nine sires to daughter-proven lineups

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, April 9, 2025 – Select Sires added six Holsteins and three Jerseys to the daughter-proven lineups following the April sire summary. “We are committed to identifying and developing sires that meet a wide range of market needs while maximizing the genetic potential of herds across the United States and around the world,” said Chuck Sattler, Senior Vice President of Genetic Programs and Research at Select Sires Inc. “Our customers can feel confident that the Select Sires genetic lineups are guided by profit-focused decisions designed to strengthen their bottom line. This class of newly proven sires reflects that commitment.”

Holstein Highlights

Select Sires’ Herd Health Profit Dollars^® (HHP$^®) index is the most comprehensive and measurable economic index in the industry, designed to create healthy and efficient cows that improve profitability. The longevity-focused index prioritizes mastitis resistance and fertility, while balancing fat and protein, to target profit points within the herd. The April graduating class includes three sires above +700 HHP$. Leading the pack are 7HO16396 FELIX (+960), 7HO16418 DRAFT (+901) and 7HO16308 EARNEST BASS (+794). FELIX also was assigned Select Sires’ Mastitis ResistantPRO^® designation that is based on strict parameters for Zoetis Mastitis Resistance, CDCB Mastitis Resistance and Somatic Cell Score.

7HO16468 PHOENIX (+53 CW$^™, 105 C LIV), FELIX (+43 CW$, 105 C LIV) and DRAFT (+38 CW$, 110 C LIV) excel in other economically important health traits including calf wellness to create a healthy, robust next generation.

FELIX and DRAFT rank as top-30 TPI^® sires on Holstein Association USA’s High Ranking Sire Report. 7HO15980 HUHON offers strong production (+1,322 PTAM) and a desirable balance of -0.01% Fat and +0.05% Protein, aligning well with current and emerging milk pricing trends, which are increasingly rewarding protein yield across the industry. DRAFT is a powerhouse components sire transmitting +82 Fat (0.12%) and +61 Protein (0.08%).

Daughter fertility remains a priority as dairies work to improve conception rates in future generations. DRAFT and FELIX lead the class for Fertility Index at +2.0. With herds needing to keep cows productive for more lactations, look to positive CCR, HCR and DPR values, which both sires bolster.

Select Sires’ Showcase^™ program welcomed a newly proven sire, 250HO16121 PARTAKE. Hailing from the 2023 Holstein International Global Cow of the Year, Siemers Lmda Paris 27856-ET (EX-91-EX-MS-GMD-DOM), PARTAKE will transmit exceptional Type (+2.15) and udder conformation (+2.63 RUW, +2.85 RUH, +1.25 FUA, +0.51 TL).

For herds seeking diverse mating options, EARNEST BASS is easy-to-use on 250HO14134 RENEGADE and 7HO15167 GAMEDAY bloodlines. FELIX is also an ideal mating choice for RENEGADE and GAMEDAY, as well as for 7HO16276 SHEEPSTER and 7HO15085 PARFECT.
